The Shawsville Middle School Library Empowers Students to:

  • Become independent learners.

  • Find useful information.

  • Use information correctly.

  • Discover books they enjoy reading.

Students visit the library with their English classes several days a month. Students will use the library to research class projects. Ms. Atkinson collaborates weekly with teachers to develop activities based on the American Association of School Librarians Standards. 
The core domains of the standards are to "Think, Create, Share, Grow."


  • Students may have two books checked out at a time.

  • The loan period is two weeks.

  • Students with overdue books cannot check out another book until overdues are renewed or returned.

  • Lost book fines must be paid before the end of the school year.

  • Overdue notices are given to students regularly. 

  • Damaged book fines are due before the end of the school year.

This is Ms. Atkinson's seventeenth year as a school librarian with Montgomery County Public Schools and her seventh year at Shawsville Middle School.
